Surgical Discharge Instructions

The following are our recommendations for the optimal recovery of your pet.

** NOT following these instructions may necessitate additional treatment / surgery. This means additional expense to you and added discomfort to your pet.

*Please keep indoors and watch closely for the next 12-14 days. The incision needs to stay clean and dry. No jumping, running, or rough play for 12-14 days. Leash walks only are recommended. After 14 days, your pet can return to normal activity.

*An E-collar has been placed on your pet to keep from chewing or licking at the surgical site. Keep this on your pet at all times over the next 12-14 days or until the sutures have been removed

*Pain medication has been dispensed for your pet. This medication should control pain for the week following surgery. Please give this medication to your pet according to label instructions.

Every pet recovers differently. Some pets may not want anything to eat or drink the first night. By the next morning, she should be more alert and have a normal appetite. She can then be fed her normal amount of food.

*Do not bathe your pet for 12-14 days (until the incision is healed/sutures removed).

*Check the incision daily for signs of excessive redness, swelling, or discharge. If any of these are noted, please contact us immediately.

*If sutures have been placed, they should be removed 12-14 days after surgery. No appointment is necessary.
